Porn Blogs Manipulate Google (Wired article)

"When Google bought blogging software pioneer Blogger last year, it probably didn't expect that its new technology would be used to goose the page rankings of porn sites.

But that's exactly what's happening, as an outfit called CyberQuest has recently set up a few dozen cross-linked, porn-themed Blogspot blogs (powered by Blogger), all of which link to three of its for-profit porn sites. According to a couple of experienced bloggers, the purpose behind the cross-linking strategy is to artificially raise the Google rankings of the three porn sites.

"It's the latest sleazy porn marketing scheme," said John d'Addario, the editor of Gawker Media's porn-themed gossip blog, Fleshbot. "It's clever. You have to give them that. And it's another example of porn folk being sort of ahead of the curve when it comes to technology and marketing." [...]

Here's something off-topic for this blogg but I want to recommend the note program and Android app https://www.evernote.com/referral/Registration.action?uid=56180408&sig=27bff5b669ad9dab69b6d157d7c1fc0e which makes syncronization of data like text and pictures too between your smartphone and laptop/desktop PC very easy indeed because that's what Evernote does 24/7 and autosaves all the time too which minimizes chance of data loss. Google's Gnotes.me does most things Evernote does but haven't got any PC program and feels simpler than the rather advanced Evernote. I use both because I can't decide yet at least to choose one of them when I don't have too, except that I have to organize different types of notes to either of these apps to prevent chaos, so some chaos exists in my notes world, but I have three other notes-apps on my smartphone, but none of them syncronizes data over the internet.
